Meeting with students
Wow!
Such enthusiasm. A Bit of fear of the unknown.Lots of energy and brain power - that's the vibe I was getting this week and last when I had the opportunity to meet and greet the classes of 2011 and 2012.
I want to thank Dr. Nichols and her staff for working to create such a great environement for those who want to carry on the good work.
On behalf of the entire organization I offered our support and continued work to represent the profession here in Illinois and the state and national level.
We sponsored a great BBQ for the 1st and 2nd years to get to gether and share the wealth. I answered questions and offered clinical shadowing opporunities to those intereseted in joining me at my office in Willowbrook.
I urge any prracticing DO in the state to contact us so we can help students join you and experience the Osteopathic Difference as you share it with your patients everyday.
What are your thoughts on how osteopathic medicine figures into reforms of the health care delivery system in the US?
I want to know what we are waiting for. Where are the ideas...The Dreams...the plan...the structure and function for an equitable, accessible and wholistic - Osteopathic Health System. Consider this my call for ideas!!!

Welcome Illinois DOs
This is the first installment on the President's blog. I look forward to you thoughts and concerns regarding any issues that affect our practice as DOs in Illinois.
The spring CME was a success again this year. The Practice of Medicine 2008 End of Life Care 2 day seminar provided excellent review and thoughtful commentary on the status of this important aspect of our practices. Many thanks to the outstanding efforts of the IOMS staff and Dr. Kirstein.
The IOMS Board which met on Friday April 4th, voted in several new awards to recognize the efforts of exceptional mentors. We also initiated a MSIV annual book award based on essay submissions on the topic of the importance polital involvement in our state organization.
We look forward to seeing you all at the Winter Scientific Conference for which planning is well underway. It promises to be another great conference. Save the Dates December 4th through the 8th.
Political involvement in our communities is an important function for each of us as physicians/community leaders. This week for instance, I attended a Town hall meeting sponsored by Representative Patti Bellock on MRSA infection and legislation. I am eager to hear your thoughts and concerns regarding the current testing legislation. We need to share our experiences regarding MRSA infections and the effects of the testing legislation. There is considerable controvery regarding this topic...eg. industry interference and cost vs benefit.
That's all for now...Now let's here from you!
Sincerely,
Tony DeLorenzo, DO, FACOI
IOMS President
