Did you know…that, following the AOA's lead with last week's national town hall meeting, President Obama has scheduled his own town hall meeting on health care? The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 7/1/09. More information and a video from President Obama are posted online.
Did you know…that the AOA belongs to the Hospital Association Lobbyist Organization? This group provides a regular meeting opportunity for organizations that represent hospitals and other health care entities to share information and collaborate on issues important to their members.
Did you know…that the AOA is a member of the Coalition for Affordable Health Coverage? This group of business, health care, insurance, pharmaceutical, and consumer organizations recognizes the need to employ many approaches to reduce the number of uninsured Americans. It promotes enacting tax credits for purchasing private health insurance as well as other market-oriented approaches to extending private health coverage to all.
Did you know…that the AOA is a member of the Mental Health Liaison Group? This coalition of physician and other health care organizations is dedicated to improving access to mental health services by pursuing the enactment of mental health parity legislation that requires insurers to provide mental health coverage to beneficiaries.
Did you know…that the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) Board of Directors held a conference call on 6/22/09? During the call, AOF Directors addressed providing support for osteopathic research, plans for the AOF Honors Award Dinner, and fiscal governance in an economic recession.
Did you know…that the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCUMB-COM) plans to open branch COM campus in collaboration with the Southern Missouri State University? Did you know…that the AOA is a member of the Medical Resident FICA Coalition? This group of medical schools, teaching hospitals, and other organizations was founded to form a position on FICA taxation of medical residents and to work with the IRS to develop appropriate industry-wide guidance for handling refund claims.
Did you know…that the AOA is a member of the Medicare Rx Education Network? This entity provides information and assistance with outreach and enrollment for the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit. Former US Senator John Breaux (D-LA) chairs the network, members of which share an interest in educating Medicare beneficiaries about this benefit.

Did you know…that the AOA is a member of the AQA Steering Group, formerly known as the Ambulatory Care Quality Alliance? Today I represented the AOA on a conference call of the AQA Steering Group to discuss final plans for the 6/30/09 AQA meeting and to hear reports from work groups on performance measurement, data sharing/aggregation, and reporting. Carolyn Clancy, MD, Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality, chairs the Steering Group.

In an Official Proclamation, President Obama declared June 2009 as Great Outdoors Month to encourage all Americans to spend more time outside, enjoy our country’s natural resources, and to participate in the nationwide events marking this occasion, including public service and physical activities.
Did you know…that the AOA belongs to the Coalition for Genetic Fairness? This group of advocacy organizations, health professionals, and industry leaders works to educate Congress about the importance of legal protections for genetic information and ensure passage of meaningful genetic information nondiscrimination legislation.
Did you know…that the AOA belongs to the American Public Health Association? This group aims to improve public health through collaborative strategies with its more than 50,000 members in public health occupations like researchers, physicians, providers, administrators, teachers, and other health professionals.
Did you know…that the AOA is a member of the Alliance for Better Health Care? This group believes that high quality health care requires sound evidence to inform medical decision-making. It promotes research on the comparative clinical effectiveness of medical items, services, and systems of care, as well as broad dissemination of research findings.
Did you know…that the AOA is a member of the American Health Quality Association? This group represents Quality Improvement Organizations and professionals working to improved health care quality and patient safety nationwide. Its members develop and manage health care quality improvement projects and work with physicians, hospitals, health plans, nursing homes, and others to evaluate health care systems and share best practices.
Did you know…that the AOA is a member of the Access to Benefits Coalition? This group was formed to ensure that Medicare beneficiaries with limited means know about and make the best use of all available resources for accessing prescription drugs and reducing their costs.
Did you know…that the AOA is a member of WomenHeart: the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease? This group aims to decrease death and disability among women with heart disease through a variety of educational activities and advocacy.
Did you know…that the AOA supports Together Rx Access? The AOA and other health care organizations help to educate physicians and patients about this program, which offers a free prescription savings card to individuals and families without prescription drug coverage.
Did you know…that the AOA is a founding member of the Physician Electronic Health Record Coalition (PEHRC)? This group assists physicians, particularly those in smaller ambulatory care practices, in acquiring and using affordable, standards-based EHRs and other HIT to improve quality, enhance patient safety, and increase interoperability/efficiency.
